He added that the 39-year-old Al Nassr captain was easy to defend. The technique was not to let him inside the box because this is where he is so deadly. On the other hand, Messi is deadly anywhere with the ball.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was able to match Lionel Messi without any natural talent, but as players who faced them both, we know the difference. With Cristiano, we didn’t want him to enter the box because he was deadly there. But with Messi, he would be dangerous with getting the ball anywhere on the pitch,” he said.
This has earned the Manchester City player a lot of criticism from the Ronaldo brigade. They claim that it’s disrespectful to the Portuguese captain, who has numerous football records under his belt.
Well this take from Rodri is not a new thing in the media. Lots of players who have played with or against both have always come up with a similar opinion.
Angel di Maria who played with the duo, Ronaldo at Madrid and Messi at Argentina said that his compatriot is just pure God-given talent whereas for Ronaldo it’s work, work and work.
However, just because Ronaldo concentrated his game on being a poacher and scoring goals does not mean that he’s not talented.
The same too goes for Messi, just because he’s a magician on the ball does not mean that he doesn’t work hard. It’s impossible to be at the top like the two have done with neither talent nor hard work.
