Odrek Rwabwogo, the Chairman of the Exports and Industrial Advisory Development committee, has publicly disavowed the ‘Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo’ Group for their recent disparaging remarks directed at Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Expressing his disapproval, Rwabwogo stated, “In response to the inappropriate conduct and misguided actions of the self-proclaimed disciples, I officially distanced myself from this group in October 2021.” He further explained, “Through both video and written communication, I sought the presence of witnesses, elders, and esteemed peers who have long been proponents of our movement’s ideology.
It is imperative that in addressing public misconduct, we also impart the values of our ideology, promote a more constructive approach, instill proper etiquette, and cultivate positive public decorum among the youth.”
Despite Rwabwogo’s admonition, the group, led by Yosia Mugaaju, persisted in their disrespectful rhetoric towards Gen Muhoozi, characterizing him as an “irrational coward burdened by an exaggerated sense of entitlement.”
Escalation of Tensions
Tensions escalated when Muhoozi, in retaliation, referred to Rwabwogo as the “biggest thief” in Uganda. This exchange of derogatory remarks further intensified the conflict between the two factions.
On September 23, the ‘Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo’ Group took the bold step of petitioning President Museveni to intervene and address what they perceived as the “arrogance, authoritarianism, and imprudence of the military commander.”
This move was prompted by Muhoozi’s assertion on a certain platform that “No civilian will assume leadership in Uganda post-President Museveni, with the next leader being a member of the security forces.”
In response to the escalating tensions, Rwabwogo clarified that the members of the group “do not represent my views and should be disregarded.” He stressed, “Their actions are a consequence of the lack of ideological education within our movement and the erosion of disciplined conduct in our public discourse.
Upholding autonomy
Rwabwogo firmly asserted, “I do not require intermediaries to speak on my behalf or draft communications to His Excellency the President, or any other individual, on any matter.” He added, “I have no need for spokespersons or the utilization of social media as a conduit for conveying messages to dignitaries.”
Highlighting the detrimental impact of negative public exchanges and social media confrontations, Rwabwogo emphasized, “Such actions serve no constructive purpose other than to incite discord and breed unwarranted animosity, diverting our attention from our crucial endeavors.”
