Villa also said that Petros was able to steer the club forward in one of the club’s crises. Furthermore, the Jogoos announced that Petros’ assistant coach Jackson Magera would temporarily assume the role of head coach.
“Sports Club Villa has today amicably parted ways with its Head Coach, Petros Koukouras. Petros leaves with our sincerest appreciation for steering the Club through a very tough season and the Club wishes him well in his next endeavors.
Sports Club Villa confirms Petros’ Assistant, Jackson Magera will temporarily take up the role of Head Coach. Further announcements will be communicated in due course,” Villa’s statement read.
Koukouras was hired last year in September alongside Jackson Magera and Richard Amatre. The trio enjoyed a mixed time at the club.
Results were at times promising while at other times disappointing. Fans at one point even called for his sacking.
He was however able to save the team from relegation after they put up a string of impressive performances in the last games. Villa finished 12th on the Uganda Premier League table with 33 points.
The club also reached the quarter-finals of the Uganda Cup. They were however knocked out by the eventual winners BUL FC.
Despite having a new board and leadership, the record Uganda Premier League champions are currently undergoing another crisis with the exodus of several players refusing to renew their contracts.
