He further said that after the release of the road map for the 2026 polls by the electoral commission, political parties have to strategize and organize themselves internally.
This is through branch inspection, and organizing structures, among others; thus, security is required in such activities instead of blocking them.
DP’s caution comes against the backdrop of the police’s suspension of mobilization activities of the National Unity Platform (NUP) across the country.
The police alleged that they had received intelligence that the party was not meeting the agreed-upon guidelines.
In a statement issued by the Police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, said that Kyagulanyi and his NUP supporters had disregarded several guidelines.
It is also important to note that police once again interfered in FDC party activities on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
The party’s (FDC) chairperson, Wasswa Birigwa, had called for a delegates conference but the police quickly dispersed most of the members with teargas.
The court had also issued an injunction to stop the party delegates’ conflicts, much as the Birigwa (FDC) faction defied it.
