Security Personnel Torture Journalists As They Trail Amuriat

Ugandan security personnel thumped journalists to the point where some even lost property as they trailed Patrick Amuriat. According to their statements, the security personnel included army, police and some identified armed groups.

Security beat up one of the journalists, Fibian Kisolo causing injuries to his head and leaving him with a cut lip.

The fracas was allegedly brought about when Amuriat campaigned and yet it was not agreed upon. The Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate was watching a football match between Zombo and Nebbi.

Apparently Amuriat asked for permission from the police which they gave on condition that he doesn’t campaign. However, at the end of the game, security seemingly saw Amuriat greeting people.

Due to the events, journalists in the place picked their cameras to capture the moments. This didn’t end well when the army and police saw them. They beat up Dedan Kimathi of Chimp Reports and destroyed his camera.

Furthermore, police attacked Norman of the FDC’s media team, forcing him to delete his snapshots.

Just a week ago, journalists abandoned a security address at media center because they needed an apology for police brutality which they didn’t get.

Should journalists especially those working on the stories of opposition members endure torture? This makes it difficult for them to do their work.
