Soroti City East By-Elections Underway, Lord Mayor Lukwago And Several Arrested Already

The highly anticipated Soroti City East by-elections are already underway. Just as many expected, some people including Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and his Deputy Doreen Nyanjura have been arrested.

Apparently, they were involved in voter bribery and creating inconsistency in the election process.

The Assistant Superintendant of Police, Ageca Oscar also informed the media that they have also arrested  Patrick Amuriat.

“We have arrested 43 people, including the FDC party candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat who were bribing people and campaigning. They are currently detained at Soroti CPS. I am not aware of the incident at Lion’s Club.”

In some parts of Soroti, some people refused to vote because they found ballot boxes stuffed. Members of the public have however accused police of always taking sides with the lawbreakers.

“A policeman, a keeper of law enforcement, lies shamelessly. Do you know what that does to the spirit of a country? It erodes trust and eats at its core like cancer. Then, when things go wrong, they really go wrong, and people will be at a loss where it all came from,” a one Sokolo Kobangusa said.

Another Twitter user said this is the usual game government plays on the opposition so it’s nothing new to hear of these arrests.

This is just the usual tactics against opposition… There isn’t any kind of charges that police hasn’t thrown at opposition in this our dear country,” a one Jairo Takan said.
