Dancehall singer Hajarah Namukwaya aka Spice Diana has come out to urge award organizers to start rewarding musicians with money than trophies.

The Body singer made the remarks as she received her award during the MTN Caller Tunez Awards. These happened at the Kampala Serena Hotel as MTN sought to award singers who had their songs downloaded most times as caller tunes from the telecom company.

Spice said that they invest a lot in their music. Therefore when these awards come with money, it re-energizes them. She took home 3m shillings alongside her award. Spice Diana added that she wishes all awards were like these of MTN.

“We invest a lot in the music. When we get returns like this, it feels good. I wish all awards were like this,” she said.

Spice Diana a few months ago lashed out at local awards. This was after she had lost a number of awards she had hoped to win with almost all of them going to Swangz Avenue singer Azawi.

Spice Diana launched a scathing attack on award organizers and even warned against nominating her without her consent. She threatened to sue them if they nominated her without consulting her.

It’s not clear whether MTN consulted her or if she softened her stance finally. The money could also have been an incentive for the singer recognizing the awards.

Her sentiments were also echoed by Pallaso who bagged an award too from the ceremony.
