The new head coach takes charge immediately. According to the club’s official social media accounts, Bogere has been given a one-year job deal.
“We are delighted to announce Mr. Stephen Bogere as the club’s new head coach. The experienced tactician has signed a one-year employment contract with us and begins his new role effective Friday, October 25, 2024,” the club statement read.
This comes after Lugazi and previous URA FC head coach David Obua were unable to agree on a monthly salary. Oliver Mbekeka has been Lugazi’s temporary manager since Sempigi left, and he guided the team to their first Premier League victory at Express FC earlier this week.
There was a lot of excitement and buzzing that maybe she could be given a permanent job but this hasn’t materialized.
Mbekeka was the first woman to take charge of a team in a top-flight league in the Uganda Premier League. The 2000 CAF representative of the Uganda National Football team has been with Lugazi for a few years now.
Bogere has previously coached in the Masaza Cup tournament at SC Villa. Other clubs also include the now-defunct Victoria University, UPDF, Onduparaka, Proline FC, Buddu, and Mawokota.
Lugazi FC has five points from six games, which puts them in 13th place right now. Bogere’s debut game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, at Lugazi FC Stadium, against NEC FC.
