Students To Mobilize Sh4billion To Put Up Girls Hostel

Former Students under their umbrella Alumni Association have launched a mobilization drive to raise sh4billion for the construction of girl’s hotel at Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences formerly Paramedical School at Mulago.

The government aided health training school started in 1929 lacks modern facilities to accommodate increased number of students studying there as the oldest health training school will mark 90 years anniversary on 5th July 2019.

Kafeero Asadi Wasswa chairman organizing committee says they have lined up activities to mark the 90 years existence with community cleaning exercise, free medical camps and marathon as part of corporate social responsibility activation.

“We have lined up activities as prepare to celebrate the institute 90 years existence in July. Among them we have cleaning of the Wandegeya market, Kalerwe, blood donation in partnership Uganda blood bank, marathon and free medical camp that the community should actively participate,”Kafeero said.

Salim Nsimbe secretary says the 90 celebration will be held under the theme: role of girl child education in improving maternal health at Imperial Royale hotel on 5th July.

Explaining why they chose the theme, Nsimbe said its because of the need to improve dilapidated girls hotel and increased number of students at the school.

“We chose the theme because inception of the school infrastructure has not been upgraded despite number of female students joining the school and with health training institute demands all students are supposed to stay in school premise but management is not addressing infrastructure for the increased student’s population,” he said.

Currently the school has over 800 girls out of its 2500 student’s population staying at school campus.

Nsimbe appealed to corporate world and former students to join hands in raising the money for the construction of the girl’s hostel to improve accommodation facility.
