Former South African President, Thabo Mbeki To Grace UMI Conference On Governance

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki is set to come to Uganda to attend an International conference on governance and service delivery in developing economies organized by Uganda Management Institute this October.

Mbeki will be guest speaker at UMI conference slated to take place from October 22 to 26^th under the theme: accountability, innovations and quality public services delivery.

“We invited former South African president Thabo Mbeki to grace our international conference on governance and service delivery in developing economies as guest speaker which he wrote confirming his participation,”Dr Namara UMI Chief of Research centre said.

She explained that the conference will provide an opportunity for scholars, students and practitioners from diverse disciplines of public management to explore avenues for improvement of accountability, innovations and quality service delivery in developing economies.

Giving reasons why they chose the theme, Namara said governance issues are key drivers of change in public service delivery for any administrator seeking public office and must adhere to good governance and accountability issues to deliver quality service needed by entire public.

“Accountability, innovations are key elements of good governance to deliver quality public service and wipe out wide-spread corruption. It’s now mandatory for any public officials to adhere to good governance and accountability to kick out corruption and mismanagement of public offices,”Namara said.

She said over 200 conference participants will deliberate on sub topics like public sector reforms, performance management, evaluation,e-governance,addressing persistent corruption and education leadership including educational standards, quality and equity.

Dr.Rose Namara UMI Chief of Research Centre said the international conference is in line with UMI golden jubilee celebration.

Dr. Proscovia Sentamu UMI head of quality assurance pledged to address governance issues in training public servants during their training at UMI to deliver quality service to the general public.

Uganda Management Institute a public education entity that has been in existence for the last 50 years and has stood out as the most efficiency public service training institute for all public service officials in government and at local government administrators level.
