The New Speaker Asks Museveni For New Cabinet List

The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, has asked President Yoweri Museveni to forward the list of new cabinet ministers. He asked for the list on Thursday because he had not yet received it.

The request came in after the presentation of the budget by the finance state minister-designated Amos Lugoloobi.

‘’I have not yet received the list of ministers,’’ the speaker said before asking the president to give it to him.

The Parliament’s appointment committee is supposed to vet the nominated ministers. This committee reserves the right to approve or disapprove a ministerial nominee.

On the 8th of June, president Museveni released a list of the newly appointed cabinet ministers in which Maj. Jessica Alupo was appointed the Vice President. The 47-year-old Katakwi woman MP replaced Edward Ssekandi.

The president appointed Rebecca Kadaga, after her defeat by her former deputy Oulanyah, as the First Deputy Prime Minister. In addition to that post, President Museveni appointed Kadaga to become the Minister for East African Community Affairs.

Gen. Moses Ali is the second deputy premier, while Lukia Nakadama is the third deputy premier as well as Minister without Portfolio.

The first lady, Janet Museveni, retained her post as the education minister just like Matia Kasaija who stayed on his finance minister post. Ruth Aceng also retained her post as the Health minister.
