US President Donald Trump has made his farewell address before leaving office today saying, ‘’we did what we came to do – and so much more.’’
Trump said in a video posted on YouTube that he took on the tough battles, the hardest fights….because that is what he was elected to do. Mr. Trump, however, has still not yet accepted the result of last November’s election, which he lost to Joe Biden.
President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in on Wednesday at exactly midday as the new president of the United States of America.
On Tuesday, the eve of the inauguration, Mr. Biden led a national tribute to the 400,000 Americans that have died due to the coronavirus. 400 lights were illuminated at sundown in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC to honor those who lost their lives to the disease.
In the video, Trump said political violence is an attack on everything cherished by Americans. He said this citing out the recent attack on Capitol Hill. He noted that this act can never be tolerated despite the fact that it was his very own supporters that carried out the attack.
Congress impeached Trump for inciting insurrection over the attack. He will therefore face trial in the senate after he leaves office. If they convict him, he will be barred from standing for public office ever again.
Trump leaves office with an approval rating of 34%, a record low for a departing president.
