Uga Boys Trash Hipipo Music Awards

Talented Ugandan music duo and fast-rising singers, Uga Boys, have come out to trash the Hipipo Music Awards. Apparently, these awards have been happening for a number of years.

In fact, they are the only awards left in the country that have a little bit of pedigree.

The 2023 edition of these awards took place over the weekend at the Kampala Serena Hotel. A number of musicians including Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah Karungi, Alien Skin walked away with awards.

The Uga Boys had been nominated in Best Breakthrough Artist which was eventually won by Alien Skin. However, they pulled out a few weeks to the awards citing disrespect from the organizers.

They have further reiterated that they never want to be nominated ever again in these awards.

Additionally, they labeled them useless saying they have never needed and will never need them to build their career. On top of that, a metal plaque isn’t going to change their lives.

“Those guys are full of disrespect. They called us and talked to us in a very disrespectful manner that’s why we didn’t attend. We want to inform them that we have never needed and will never need their awards. They should keep us out of them and see if we won’t survive. A ‘katalimbwa’ isn’t going to add any value to us. Whose life have their awards transformed?” they questioned.

Well, the “Salary” singers aren’t the first ones to shun Ugandan music awards. Bebe Cool instructed all local awards not to nominate him after he was accused of paying to win these awards.

Spice Diana also about 2 years ago passed the same announcement. For her case, she further threatened to sue any of the local award organizers that dared to nominate her.
