Uganda Airlines Expands Horizons: New Flight Routes To Lusaka, Abuja And Harare On The Horizon

Uganda Airlines is set to embark on an exciting new chapter with the launch of flight routes to Lusaka, Abuja, and Harare in September. These additions mark a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy, aiming to optimize regional markets while paving the way for future growth into Europe and Asia.

In this exclusive announcement, we delve into the details of the new routes and the strategic vision driving the Nation’s Airlines forward.

Come September 12, 2024, Uganda Airlines will inaugurate its flights to Abuja, Nigeria. Passengers can expect regular flights every Sunday and Thursday aboard our flagship A330-800 aircraft.

This addition complements the existing flights to Lagos, which currently operate every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. By expanding its presence in Nigeria, Uganda Airlines aims to enhance accessibility and connectivity for travelers, fostering both business and leisure opportunities.

Lusaka and Harare connection: Strengthening regional ties

On September 25, 2024, Uganda Airlines will extend its reach to Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe.

These new routes will operate four times a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. By connecting the capitals of these neighboring countries, Uganda Airlines aims to strengthen regional ties, facilitating trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

This expansion reinforces the airline’s commitment to becoming a reliable and preferred carrier within the African continent.

Jennifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, emphasized the strategic importance of the new routes. She stated that these market entries form a crucial part of the airline’s expansion strategy, creating an efficient regional market that can support and finance a more profitable long-haul market.

Further plans to expand in Europe

As the Nation’s Airlines continues to grow its fleet and optimize its utilization, the introduction of these services represents the second phase of network development, with further plans to expand into Europe and Asia on the horizon.

The introduction of the Lusaka, Abuja, and Harare routes adds to Uganda Airlines’ existing network of destinations.

With flights already operating to Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Dubai, Johannesburg, Juba, Kilimanjaro, Kinshasa, Lagos, Mogadishu, Mombasa, Mumbai, Nairobi, and Zanzibar, the national carrier now serves a total of 16 destinations.

This expanded reach enhances Uganda’s connectivity on a global scale, fostering economic growth and promoting tourism.

Uganda Airlines’ chief commercial officer’s perspective

Adedayo Olawuyi, Chief Commercial Officer of Uganda Airlines, expressed optimism regarding the new routes’ financial prospects. He stated that the addition of these three routes is expected to bring an additional 10% increase in revenue, aiming to break even within the first 18 months of operation.

Not only focusing on passenger travel, but the Airlines also recognizes the profitable potential of cargo transportation, contributing to the long-term success of the national carrier.

Uganda Airlines is on the cusp of an exciting expansion, introducing new flight routes to Lusaka, Abuja, and Harare.

With a strategic vision to optimize regional markets and pave the way for future growth into Europe and Asia, the national carrier is poised to strengthen Uganda’s connectivity and foster economic development.

As Uganda Airlines continues to expand its network and explore untapped opportunities, it solidifies its position as a reliable and preferred choice for travelers within Africa and beyond.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] section of women in Bugongo parish and Nawangaiza parish in Nawandala Sub County, Iganga District have decried the near-impossible terms set for them to access GROW funds. They have now petitioned their woman member of parliament for Iganga Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo to ask the government for revised terms and conditions. This is to enable them to benefit from the program. The disgruntled women accuse the implementers of the program of charging the money. They are also asking for their land titles and land agreements. They said that such properties are governed by their husbands. These, therefore want the government through their woman MP to intervene and revise the requirements for one to benefit. The women were on Wednesday at Namabwere primary school in Nawandala Sub County. They had gathered in their respective groups to receive over 300 chickens from Hon Alibaawo in her campaign to improve the livelihood of women in Iganga district. Each group was given 50 chicken as start-up capital in their journey to prosperity. Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
