Uganda airlines yesterday launched a direct flight from Uganda straight to South Africa. The Ugandan carrier, the bombardier will be flying four times a week from Entebbe to Johannesburg.
This flight will be taking four hours unlike the usual two hours it’s been taking to fly from Uganda to South Africa.
The plane was flagged off by the South African high commissioner to Uganda and the ministry of works permanent secretary, Mr Waiswa Bageya. By 3pm, the plane had already landed at the OR Tambo airport in South Africa.
Mr Bageya while seeing off the airline urged the airline officials to concentrate on growing the country’s national carrier.
Uganda airlines has over the past years boosted the national airline. This came ever since the government revived the business after decades in limbo.
This new venture is expected to strengthen bilateral and commercial ties between the two countries.
It should also be noted that there are a lot of Ugandans doing business in South Africa. This will come as a relief to them.
The new program of the national carrier was welcomed by a number of people who ply the Uganda South Africa route. He also cited how this was going to help improve their businesses.
Some people reacted to the news enthusiastically:
“Congratulations Uganda airlines keep it up fly the crane all over the,” one Twitter user commented.
“New dawn. New Leadership. Thank you for bringing pride to the Pearl of Africa. The sky remains the limit,” another posted.
“Congratulations Uganda Airlines, step-by-step we will reach where we want to reach” another added.
