Uganda Is Safer Than The USA- MP Margaret Muhanga

Burahya MP and NRM party member Margaret Muhanga has lashed out at those saying Uganda is a hub of violence. The legislator was addressing remarks from fellow MPs Medard Lubega Ssegona and Nandala Mafabi while appearing on the NBS Frontline.

The remarks come after the failed assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala on 1st June 2021. Additionally, Muhanga said people fly from as far as distant countries to come and enjoy the nightlife of Uganda.

“People fly here to enjoy the nightlife. You can’t make a sweeping statement that Uganda is not safe. Uganda is very safe under Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa. We should not alarm Ugandans. “ Margaret Muhanga asserted.

She further added that Uganda just like most countries has gun violence which is hard to tackle. She cited the US as one of those with high gun violence. Furthermore, she said it’s only Scandinavian countries that are not affected by such crimes.

“There are very few countries with no gun crimes for example the Scandinavian countries. In the US, they have failed to do gun control. Here it is not common that someone will have a gun. But because we have porous borders, illegal guns come in.” Margaret Muhanga said.

The legislator just like most Ugandans wondered what the assailants want with the general since his life is not a flamboyant one.

“Katumba Wamala is not a flamboyant soldier. He prefers to live a simple life. For someone to look for his life, what do they want? What has he done wrong? We should find out what motivates these people.” Margaret Muhanga questioned.

NRM party member Ofwono Opondo also supported Muhanga’s argument. The NRM spokesman also said that even in countries like the US, they had experienced high profiled assassinations.

“You should remember that even in the most developed countries, big people have been shot. The President of the United States, J. F Kennedy was shot.” Ofwono Opondo argued.
