On this day last year, President Museveni announced the closure of schools, churches, airports, bars, concerts among others.
Some of these were with immediate effect while for schools they were given just two days to send children home. Obviously, this caused a lot of trauma to the public who were wondering how they would survive. The mixed reactions were so evident from the response from the public about all this.
However, at least now the country is kind of open. Although some activities remain chained till further notice. For instance concerts, bars are still under lockdown probably till vaccination is well done. Schools and churches however were opened though in part and not as free as they should be. We still have curfew going on probably for security reasons though some have equated it to politics.
Do we still need this minimal lockdown? Cases have consequently gone down to the point that even hospitals have kind of relaxed now. Of course, we still need to follow SOPs but do we still need a limitation on the number of people in a place. This whole situation has had and continues to have a great impact on our economy. Lockdown has pushed many people out of business.
Isn’t it about time Ugandans learn how to live with covid as a normal life?
However, scientists are saying we should expect a second wave of the virus. Therefore, we just can’t relax yet.
