Initial speculations of staff assimilation post-agency merger have been dispelled, revealing that all employees of the dissolved Uganda National Roads Authority ( UNRA ) are now facing unemployment.
In a recent communication to UNRA staff, Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala, announced the cessation of their appointments and instructed them to surrender office belongings by a specified deadline.
With the official repeal of the UNRA Act and subsequent gazette notice formalizing its dissolution, the fate of all former UNRA staff hangs in the balance.
Minister Katumba assured employees that their terminal benefits would be processed post-verification, adhering to the terms of their service agreements.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has taken charge of managing Uganda’s road network in the wake of UNRA’s closure, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and eliminate redundancies.
Having made significant contributions to Uganda’s road infrastructure over the years, Uganda National Roads Authority leaves behind a legacy of modernization and development under the leadership of Executive Director Allen Kagina.
As the country transitions to a new phase in road network management, Minister Katumba emphasizes the importance of a seamless handover to ensure the continuity of progress.
In a symbolic gesture, Ms. Kagina announced the relinquishment of her UNRA executive director title, marking the end of a chapter in the agency’s history.
