Also known as Mando among the boxing fraternity, Zebra Ssenyange, 39, met his death in a rather gruesome manner.
The unknown gunmen attacked his home in Bwaise (near Eden Service Park), a suburb of the capital, Kampala during the wee-hours of Wednesday night, 30th December 2020.
Ssenyange is a resident of St. Francis Zone, Bwaise III Parish. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants travelling in two cars picked the deceased from his home at around 1am in the morning. They later shot him 400 meters away from his home and he died instantly.
By press time, the police had already sealed off the crime scene to allow investigations to commence. Authorities had also taken the body to Mulago Hospital for postmortem studies.
“It is a sad moment. People are gathered at the deceased’s house mourning. According to the wife, they (gunmen) first knocked at the door before they opened fire and shot the victim. I reached when the ambulance had taken the body to the Hospital. This is a very sad time for the family, boxing family and the sports fraternity at large.” A sports journalist at the scene said.
