Uganda To Mourn Magufuli On President’s Orders

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered the country to raise flags at half mast in honour of Magufuli. He said this should be done for every flag at all public buildings and public grounds also as to mourn the loss of one of East Africa’s greatest leaders.

John Pombe Magufuli, 61, was announced dead on Wednesday at a hospital in Dar-es-Salaam. The announcement indicated that the president of the country died due to heart complications.

The State House released a statement on Thursday evening. Through it, President Museveni directed all flags to fly at half mast. He said this will go on until the day that they lay Magufuli’s body to rest.

“In honour of his contribution, I direct all the flags in Uganda to fly at half-mast. Until the day of his burial. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.

Museveni spoke about the late and described him as a patriot who did not tolerate corruption, and the meddling of outside countries into Tanzania’s affairs. He further said it is a shock that such a useful leader died so early. Magufuli had begun to make an impact on his country.

He also described Tanzania as an important piece in the history of Africa. He noted that on the account of good leadership from the patriotic Julius Nyerere, Tanzania became a base for many freedom fighters in Africa.

Museveni recalled the fight that removed Idd Amin from power saying that Tanzania did not let Ugandans down. He said Julius Nyerere extended support to the cause in 1985 to Uganda.

The president concluded by sending condolences on behalf of the country to the mourning family of the deceased and to Tanzanian as well.
