In fact, it’s one of those companies where almost every company that provides a service like theirs is called DSTV. Just like how Ugandans call every toothpaste Colgate or every detergent Omo.
Ugandans nonetheless seem to have woken up all of a sudden about MultiChoice. They have all launched a movement against the company on social media and it seems when their monthly subscription ends, few will be renewing it.
Some have already started joining optional service providers such as Canal+ and BEIN Sports. These are said to provide the same kind of services at way more cheaper prices and with the same services or even better.
“Well @DStvUganda, it was nice subscribing to your services for a painful 12 years. Your intermittent upward rate reviews, incompatible with your services, cannot keep us together. Enjoy other subscribers,” NBS TV journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala revealed.
“Bein Sports we pay 200USD for a full year and enjoy blockbuster movies in 4k and 8k, cartoons plus football. Dstv customers mulina enaku,” singer Bruno K also shared his experience.
The fees of the satellite TV provider seem to keep getting hiked every now and then.
According to a local website, monthly subscription fees are as follows;
- DStv Premium140+UGX 275,000
- DStv Compact Plus130+UGX 160,000
- DStv Compact125+UGX 104,000
- DStv Family95+UGX 64,000
- DStv Access75+UGX 43,000
- DStv Lumba50+UGX 16,000
- Xtra View/PVR Access FeesUGX 50,000
The company meanwhile is yet to come out and provide an update on these complaints. However, if they don’t do something, it seems like they will lose a lot of customers which might invite stronger competitors in the market.
