UMA had proposed a virtual election that was already underway yesterday. However, somewhere the system collapsed and slowed down.
This saw Saha and his entourage get furious with the organizing board. They demanded that the election stops because they didn’t know what was going on. And indeed the chairperson of the UMA Electoral Commission, Jeff Ekolongot conceded defeat. He halted the election and said they would provide a way forward.
“As the chairman of the Uganda Musicians Association committee and by the powers vested in me as the Electoral Commissioner of the UMA elections and with all the overwhelming concerns of the members and the various candidates, I’m making a decision to stop these elections. We will announce the way forward in the due course.
We have had overwhelming challenges with technology but we will announce the way forward,” Jeff Ekolongot said.
Saha who was present at the venue came with his lawyer, the lord mayor Erias Lukwago. Lukwago said that their agents kept updating them.
They also tried to follow up but whatever was being done was dubious. Lukwago said that the system failed and people were voting more than once upto even 3 times.
Those manning the system also tried to block those suspected of voting for Saha.
Big Eye who has served in the previous UMA cabinet and an official in the election also provided an update. He said that most people across the country were complaining about the system being off.
Raga Dee on the other hand said it wasn’t Saha as an individual that stopped the election. It was rather the power vested in the UMA EC chairman.
What’s shocking is that by the time the exercise was halted, is said that Cindy and her pal Phina Mugerwa were highly in the lead. Saha had always proposed a ballot election and it seems he finally won.
