With the emergence of UNMF, it clearly shows that there is going to be a power struggle between these two groups. UNMF has the most influential musicians and these can make things happen with just the snap of a finger.
A number of musicians who are actually ‘small’ compared to those in UNMF have already been trashing the Federation. UMA is clearly not happy with this new Federation since it does threaten its existence.
It should be noted that Eddy Kenzo, the president of the UNMF said that he had talked to UMA’s president, Cindy Sanyu. And therefore these two groups could exist harmoniously.
This, however, doesn’t seem to be the case according to one of the executive members of UMA, Isaac Ruuci. Ruuci, like most of UNMF’s critics, trashed the president, Eddy Kenzo.
He said that just because the big talent boss has sung on international stages, won several awards and is famous, doesn’t mean he’s worth leading. Therefore, this Federation will definitely fail if it doesn’t involve the elders according to Ruuci.
“Just because you have sung on international stages and awards and you’re famous doesn’t mean you are now worth leading. This new Federation, without involving the elders will fail,” said Ruuci.
However, most of the existing and past groups which have involved elders have all failed. These include UMA itself and the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS).
With the unification of musicians for a unanimous voice being one of the objectives, UNMF definitely has a huge task ahead.
