UMEME Goes Against Their Word, They Announce Power Outage Today

Electricity distributor, Umeme, has gone against their word after announcing a power outage today. Yesterday, Umeme announced that today there will not be any power outage for people to watch the swearing-in ceremony. Peter Kauju, the Umeme Head of Communications said there were no planned shutdowns today.

“Umeme notifies you that there will be no planned shutdowns across the country tomorrow 12th May 2021. In case of any outage or emergency electricity challenges, kindly reach us on the contact platforms below,” their statement read.

However, this morning Umeme announced a power outage in areas around Ntinda and the surrounding areas.

“#OutageAlert!
Affected: Ntinda, Kiwatule, Mogas, Najjera, Kungu, Buwate, and Kyanja. Power is off due to a technical fault on the powerline. All inconveniences caused are regrettable.” Umeme tweeted.

This behaviour dismayed their customers, especially after they promised no shutdown.

“Why Najjera always, you switch off power every night claiming a fault, is this fault timed? Why does it happen every night besides you clearly stated that power will be on today everywhere, I guess Najjera isn’t part of everywhere.” A customer replied to the tweet.

Meanwhile, the president has been attacking the power distributor recently in his speeches. He has constantly called them incompetent claiming not to know how they got the contract. However, today would be the perfect day to prove him wrong but we can say they have failed.

However, Umeme has apologized to its customers and promised to work on the technical fault as soon as they can.
