Lydia Tumushabe, the Katonga regional police spokesperson said they received a disturbance call in the night. The LC 3 chairperson said two suspected cattle thieves were about to be lynched by the community.
A police team then rushed to the scene to rescue the two suspects who they then took into their custody.
“Moments after, a group of three men on a boda boda reached the scene at the village and started inquiring about what happened. They looked suspicious and the community threatened to arrest them, unaware that they were armed with a gun,” Tumushabe said.
She revealed that the suspects drew out their gun and shot at the gathered residents and killed two of them on the spot. The deceased persons have been identified as, Kalyango Ibra and Nsubuga Peter
These three gunmen then proceeded to Kyabadaza and attacked police officers who were on duty at the time.
“A fire exchange occurred, which enabled the escape of suspects, including the two suspected cattle thieves. Although no officers were injured and guns lost, part of the offices got burnt,” Tumushabe revealed.
The police is not sure of the motive behind this attack but they said they have commenced their search for the assailants.
