This annual gathering, a testament to the remarkable sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs, stands as a pinnacle of devotion for Christians worldwide, beckoning vast crowds eager to partake in the joyous commemoration.

For those embarking on this sacred journey, here are indispensable safety tips that will ensure a harmonious and spiritually enriching experience:

Inoculations and Medicinal Shields:

Prioritize your well-being by verifying that all essential vaccinations, including those for yellow fever and COVID-19, are up to date. Also, carry any prescribed medications, such as malaria prophylaxis, if advised.

Hydration for the Soul and Body:

Amidst the tropical climate, quench your thirst and invigorate your spirit by consuming ample amounts of bottled or purified water.

Identity in Safekeeping:

Keep your identification documents close at all times. It is prudent to carry photocopies of your passport, visa, and other vital credentials.

Guardians of Emergency:

Arm yourself with a list of emergency contacts, including local emergency services, your country’s embassy, and your fellow travelers.

Fortify Your Possessions:

Safeguard your valuables by utilizing anti-theft bags or money belts. Avoid carrying large sums of money and remain vigilant in crowded areas.

Reservations for Tranquility:

Prioritize peace of mind by pre-booking accommodations through reputable providers. Confirm all reservations before embarking on your pilgrimage.

Navigating Local Pathways:

Opt for registered taxis or trusted ride-hailing services when traversing local terrain. Refrain from solo travel during nighttime hours and exercise caution in unfamiliar locales.

Time is of the Essence:

Arrive early to embrace the tranquility of smaller crowds and secure a vantage point. This allows for a deeper connection with the surroundings.

Weather’s Whims:

Shield yourself from the caprices of weather by donning light, breathable attire, and don’t forget to bring along a hat, sunscreen, and a raincoat or umbrella.

Comfort in Every Step:

Ensure your pilgrimage is a comfortable one by wearing suitable footwear that can withstand long walks and extended periods of standing.

Harmonizing with Instructions:

Embrace the guidance of event organizers and security personnel. Pay heed to public announcements and familiarize yourself with emergency exits.

Unity in Companionship:

Traverse the pilgrimage in pairs or groups to avoid losing your way amidst the fervor. Establish a designated meeting point in case of separation.

Vigilance Amidst Sanctity:

Stay attuned to your surroundings, ever watchful for any suspicious activities. Report any concerns promptly to the authorities.

Cultural Reverence:

Honor local customs and traditions by dressing modestly and displaying sensitivity towards religious practices.

Enlivening the Environment:

Nurture the sanctity of your surroundings by responsibly disposing of litter in designated bins.

First Aid Allies:

Upon arrival, locate the nearest first aid stations for immediate assistance. Carry a basic first aid kit to address minor injuries.

A Lifeline of Connection:

Ensure your mobile phone is fully charged, and consider carrying a portable charger to preserve the ability to communicate. Local SIM cards can prove invaluable for staying connected.

Concealing Masks of Protection:

While restrictions may vary, wearing a mask in crowded spaces can serve as a shield against the spread of illnesses.

Sanctity in Cleanliness:

Embrace hand hygiene by utilizing hand sanitizers regularly. Whenever possible, cleanse your hands with soap and water, an act of purification.

Embracing Distanced Reverence:

In adherence to local health guidelines, maintain physical distance when feasible, allowing for a serene and safe pilgrimage experience.

As the Martyrs Day celebration embarks on its profound spiritual journey, the preservation of safety stands as the guardian of its religious significance. By embracing these vital precautions, pilgrims can immerse themselves in a secure and indelible experience at Namugongo.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] section of women in Bugongo parish and Nawangaiza parish in Nawandala Sub County, Iganga District have decried the near-impossible terms set for them to access GROW funds. They have now petitioned their woman member of parliament for Iganga Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo to ask the government for revised terms and conditions. This is to enable them to benefit from the program. The disgruntled women accuse the implementers of the program of charging the money. They are also asking for their land titles and land agreements. They said that such properties are governed by their husbands. These, therefore want the government through their woman MP to intervene and revise the requirements for one to benefit. The women were on Wednesday at Namabwere primary school in Nawandala Sub County. They had gathered in their respective groups to receive over 300 chickens from Hon Alibaawo in her campaign to improve the livelihood of women in Iganga district. Each group was given 50 chicken as start-up capital in their journey to prosperity. Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
