UPDF Officer Who Shot Boda Boda Cyclist Dead Arrested

Yesterday morning at approximately 8am, residents of Kibende trading centre in Kabarole district were shocked after a UPDF officer shot dead a Boda Boda cyclist.

Eyewitnesses narrated that this officer was one of those manning the Kabarole-Bunyangabu border after the President banned interdistrict travels in a bid to curb down the spread of covid 19.

Authorities identified the officer as private Okuro Denis attached to Mugushu army detach in Kabarole district. They identified the late as John Atugonza, a resident of Kabarole district.

The cyclist had one passenger as per guidelines on the Fort Portal- Kasese road.

He was however riding on a high speed and couldn’t stop the motorcycle at the exact spot

The passenger fell off in the process of stopping the motorcycle. The cyclist knocked Okuru who was standing a few metres away from the roadblock.

The UPDF Officer then proceeded to shoot the cyclist in the head which led to his death instantly.

Authorities took Okuru into custody yesterday will prosecute him for murder according to UPDF sources.

This, however, is not the first time security personnel are recklessly killing civilians while enforcing the covid 19 presidential guidelines.

Last year, the UPDF recalled LDU soldiers from enforcing covid 19 guidelines after deaths from their operations.
