For a long time, artistes in Uganda have never been taxed yet they are some of the high-paid people. For promoters, they have been paying taxes but most of them have been evading it.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, artistes were among the top Ugandans that ran to government to help them financially.
Some were helped the same as promoters. Almost every known promoter in Uganda received money from the government.
Now after Covid-19, URA has decided artistes should start paying taxes like any other Ugandan with a business.
The tax body has been reaching out to artistes one on one. They also took to social media to remind them, promoters, DJs and Vjs to pay taxes.
“𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿: To all Event Promoters, URA Forces Artistes And Events Promoters To Pay Taxes Musicians, DJs, VJs and others who earn income from the Entertainment Sector. File and pay your tax returns this festive season. Failure to comply shall attract a fine and imprisonment. Don’t say we didn’t tell you.

#URATickTock,” URA posted.
Some artistes are complaining about the taxes. They are saying paying is not bad but they don’t know the reason why they are paying yet the government doesn’t care about them too much.
“Many Ugandans won’t have a problem paying taxes or withholding the 6% payment from artistes and performers, but the problem is that entertainers want to know why they pay,”
