Veteran Actor John Ssegawa Trashes Ugandan Standup Comedians

Veteran Ugandan actor and playwright, John Ssegawa doesn’t rate Ugandan stand-up comedians and actually called them nonsensical. Apparently, several actors have transitioned from theatre to comedy. He said that this is due to the fact that theatre is principled and expensive. This is quite the opposite with stand-up comedy.

Additionally, he said it’s easy for someone to do stand-up comedy. This is because two people can easily link up and create stupid and obscene jokes which they then sell to a classless crowd.

Additionally, Ssegawa said that Ugandan stand-up comedy is not even doing well and is full of gamblers. When he was told about Alex Muhangi and Patrick Salvador, he branded the former a businessman and the latter an influencer.

According to the veteran artist, the only person he rates in stand-up comedy is Maulana who is a part of the Maulana and Reign duo. And this is because Maulana also belongs to theatre.

Further, he said that the reason Theatre has declined is because people nowadays have a lot of responsibilities. They therefore don’t give in as much time as they used to.

The actor also commented about the tax issue. This has rocked the entertainment industry in the past couple of weeks. According to Ssegawa, he doesn’t see why one doesn’t want to pay taxes if they earn and use government services.
