Democratic Party’s Richard Ssebamala won the election with 9,916 votes against the former’s 4,904 votes. This clearly indicates a margin of 5,014 votes.
In a meeting with his campaigning managers and agents at his home in Bulegeya village, the VP thanked the electorate for the trust and faith they showed him since his election in 1994.
‘’I want to dismiss rumors that the ongoing extension of electricity to all villages is going to stop, even the two ambulances including a new one I donated to Kyanamukaaka Health Center will remain in the area to serve sick people that require emergency services,’’ he said.
On the alleged irregularities.
Ssekandi said he doesn’t fear losing an election as long as it is free and fair. He also commented on the irregularities that transpired during the election. He said they will rectify it and put to justice those responsible.
Among other things, Mr. Edward Ssekandi cited the transfer of people from other areas. He says these people registered in the constituency as voters and candidates and participated in the election. He said the plot was targeted towards denying him the victory because Bukoto is an NRM stronghold.
Among Ssekandi’s claims was one that said Mr. Ssebamala is not a registered voter in the constituency. He said he would legally challenge the election results. He also said people shouldn’t be surprised when his opponent doesn’t set a foot in Parliament.
