One of the current trending singers, Vyroota has said that the Ugandan music industry is fake, unlike the Nigerian one. A couple of times, Ugandan musicians have come out to compare the local music industry and the Nigerian one.
There is no doubt that the West African country is one of the key giants of music in Africa.
According to Vyroota, Ugandan musicians compete amongst themselves. This is nothing like it is in Nigeria as they compete with those outside of their boundaries.
He added that when a young musician sprouts up, the already-established ones give him a chance to shine. He gave an example of how the likes of Burna Boy paused releasing music when Ruger came up.
They left the space for him to shine and he indeed shined. However, the artists here can’t do that and will instead compete against the nobodies.
“Our music industry is fake because we compete with ourselves. In Nigeria, they are better because they compete with people outside Nigeria. Nigerian music is bigger than Ugandan music because the Nigerians are supportive, when Ruger was coming up, Burna Boy and other big Nigerian musicians paused releasing music for the boy to shine, in Uganda, it can’t happen, big musicians don’t want the young ones to shine,” the singer said.
Apparently, several singers have always pointed out the solidarity in Nigeria’s music industry. Despite the differences among the Afro Beats musicians, they always manage them peacefully.
