Joel says NUP was not at all short of candidates to parade for Soroti but they saw it right to stand with their FDC counterpart. In any case, Ssenyonyi says he is sure of their victory unless otherwise.
“We need to begin acting on the concept of the united forces of change. We had to set the ball rolling and offer leadership. FDC’s Attan is part of the forces of change. We are in touch with other leaders, and they are happy about our decision.”
“We (NUP) would want to have a candidate in the Soroti by-election, but does it make sense to fight our brothers? FDC are our brothers. We are going into the Soroti by-election united. Even before the victory, which I know we shall get. Victory number one is that the forces of change have come together.”
However, some members of the public have said they are not going to be swayed by this sudden unity because apparently there are hidden intentions.
“There’s no United Forces of Change but there’s for sure, the United Forces of Eating. And as much as I see, this marriage of convenience in Soroti shdnt blindfold us that the opposition is uniting. It’s just a blanket for NUP to cover her shame. Bitten once twice shy,” a one Nayenga Nelson said.
