What Happened In Soroti Was Thuggery, Not An Election – Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has said whatever happened in Soroti was thuggery and not an election. He said this after the Electoral Commission announced NRM’s Ariko as leader.

“Thuggery has happened today. There was no election today. The whole of Soroti was turned into a battlefield. It’s been horror, nothing else but horror, and it’s regrettable.”

Lukwago says he expected the EC to call off these elections after all the notable irregularities. To his surprise, the elections proceeded anyway.

“I expected Justice Byabakama (Electoral Commission Chairperson) to call off the election after all the thuggery he witnessed.”

Earlier yesterday, the Lord Mayor, Lukwago, his deputy and so many others were arrested while in Soroti. The police said these were obstructing the transparent election process in Soroti.

However, Lukwago insists that Prime Minister, Nabbanja, should have been arrested for apparently distributing money at Lion’s Club in Soroti.

“When you talk about criminality, it should have started with Nabbanja (Prime Minister). She was superintending over the distribution of money at Lion’s Club. She was like an ATM during this electoral process.”

Erias said this while on a late-night show on NBS with several other politicians including Ofwono Opondo.

The conversation got so heated up that the two almost exchanged blows on live Television which forced NBS to go for a long break before resuming.
