The Vice president of Uganda National Academy of Sciences prof Frederick Kayanja has challenged academicians, researchers and university dons to conduct relevant researches that will impact society and help government reduce epidemics in the country.
Kayanja says most researches conducted gather dust in offices and universities but not shared with policy makers and government institution to cause change in management of key issues like addressing disease burden.
“Am perturbed by good researches gathering dust. Researchers and university dons should start sharing these research findings with young researchers, policy makers and government to cause change on disease epidemic,” Kayanja said.
He cautioned university dons to prioritise their research papers towards addressing country disease burden saying Uganda has high prevalence of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
Uganda National Academy of Sciences is an independent research advisory agency that advises government on research and science funding innovations.
Through UNAS government has been said to receive $510 million from global fund for malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/Aids.
Kayanja was meeting members of Uganda national academy of sciences who comprise of researchers, academicians, professional associations and self coordinating entity on joint grant management meeting on Kampala.
