“On Monday (today), those who would have not registered, will not be allowed to operate in the city. They will first stay at home as only those registered by KCCA and by the ministry of Kampala, will be allowed to operate in Nakawa, Kawempe, Rubaga, Makindye and Central.”
This registration officially closed on Friday, 16th September 2022. By that time about 40,000 cyclists had registered. However, it is openly known that Kampala has over 200,000 cyclists.
If this goes on as planned, it means about 160,000 Cyclists have no jobs as we speak. This idea of registration was shunned by most of the people because all the anticipated reasons behind it.
KCCA had said this move was and is for the betterment of the city in terms of organization. However, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago said this is just another project government officials want to feed on.
He has openly opposed it and in fact even took KCCA to court but the process of the case has not been consistently noted whatsoever.
