Amelia Kyambadde Reveals How She Was Shocked By Life After Politics

Former Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde has revealed that life after politics really shocked her. This is because the freebies that were associated with the job were no longer coming in.

There was no longer a monthly salary for her. She started worrying about how she was going to survive. She decided to turn her environment into a source of income.

Mrs Kyambadde says that she turned to agriculture as a source of income. Besides, she was also into building apartments. Through this, she became an entrepreneur in a bid to sustain her and family.

“Life after politics shocked me. I was no longer getting the monthly salary I was used to. I was thinking of how I was going to survive. I looked around me and decided to turn my environment into a resource. I started filling the bananas and harvesting my fish. I was also building apartments. I became an entrepreneur,” she said.

Furthermore, she also advised politicians not to take politics as a career.

Speaking about herself, she said that she wasn’t supposed to be a minister forever. The President gave her the opportunity to serve in different roles in the government.

These included PPS, a minister, a National Treasurer, a Member of Parliament. Therefore, there was nothing much she wanted after losing the 2021 election to singer, Dr Hilderman.

The former Mawokota North MP also narrated how she was always broke during her parliamentary stint. This is because she always gave away her salary to better the welfare of her people.

Furthermore, the ex-Minister revealed that she one-time borrowed Shs 300 million from the bank. She used this to buy hoes for every person in her constituency. Her children always criticized her over this.

President Museveni also used to counsel her to rely on government services but she felt these didn’t serve their purposes.
