Primary teachers and teachers of arts in government-aided schools across the country went on a sit-down strike from 15 June 2022. They were protesting something they called ‘discriminatory’ wage increment for teachers of science subjects.
Tuesday, 05 July 2022, Among asked the PM to model a path connected to harmonizing salaries of teachers.
However though, she advised teachers to get back to their teaching stations as they work to take care of their salaries.
Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo District Woman MP cited the need for government to consider equality in salary increment.
“It is not about the arts teachers striking, it is about equality. This is what we need to address and this should be addressed in compliance with the law of Equal Opportunity,” she said.
Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, the Opposition Chief Whip advised parliament to stay away from such inequalities.
He further said the government should make a comprehensive report on the salary increment. He also added that they should introduce the Pension Fund Bill for public sector workers.
In separate new by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, the deputy Lord Mayor of Kampala, Doreen Nyanjura said Speaker Among is not a unifier. According to Doreen, Anita showed who she really is while dealing with the Zaake issue.
“Anita has already demonstrated that she is not a unifier. She is going to run the House as her personal home and that is why when she got annoyed with Francis Zaake, you know what happened to Zaake.”
