Apparently, Balaam was a surprise appointment in this week’s cabinet reshuffle by President Museveni. The popular events promoter was appointed the Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Youth and Children’s Affairs.
Speaking about his new job and the dress code, Balaam said that he wishes there was a little tweak in the laws to allow everyone to wear what they want.
Additionally, he said that if suits are the only thing to wear, he will abide by it. However, he will always move with his T-shirt in the car. Once he’s done with his official duties, he wears his T-shirt again.
“I’m going to ask my friend, the speaker Anita Among to see if I can be allowed in Parliament with my T-shirt. Or if the laws can be changed so that people wear what they want. However, if that is not possible, I will be moving with my T-shirt in the car. After my duties I wear it,” he said.
On when he will assume office, the PLU, western region vice president said that he’s awaiting confirmation from the appointing and authorizing bodies. Once he’s given the green light, then he will proceed.
Furthermore, he promised artists that the copyright law would be hastened. This is because those who have been working on it had no idea about the necessities.
But since one of them has been appointed, he will add a brick to it. Balaam however said that he won’t work on artistes only but also the youth. This is because his office targets the youth predominantly.
