The EC revealed it is still verifying a total of 18 candidates ahead of their nomination next week. Bukenya noted Robert Kyagulanyi, Patrick Amurati (FDC), Gregg Mugisha (ANT), and Joseph Kabuleta as some of those that are not verified yet. This development comes barely a week before the nomination of the presidential aspirants.
The Electoral Commission set the nomination dates for November 2nd and 3rd, 2020 at Kyambogo University Sports Grounds.
The EC chairperson Lule Simon Byabakama said last week they will limit access to the venue to only a few. This is because they want to comply with the Ministry of Health guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The EC said it will allow aspiring candidate at the venue accompanied by only 9 other people making a total of 10.
“The particulars of the persons accompanying the aspirants shall be submitted to the commission in advance,’’ Byabakama said.
He went ahead and advised the aspirants to use only three vehicles for purposes of their nominations. Each car will have not more than four persons in it the driver inclusive. He also noted that each of the three vehicles shall have a police sticker.
On the other hand, the incumbent, President Museveni shall use facilities attached to his office. This is in accordance to Section 27(2) of the presidential Act that allows the president to use his presidential convoy.
