The two prolific athletes met in a star-studded event but Joshua proved that he’s still got it. Apparently, he knocked down the Cameroonian in the first round. Again, he punched him down in the second round and finally delivered the KO at 2:38 in the same round.
The former UFC fighter fell cold and lay on the canvas for more than a minute. He had to get quick medical attention and was also put on oxygen.
Anthony Joshua looks to be back to his best as this is his fourth consecutive victory since he suffered consecutive defeats to Ukrainian boxer, Oleksandr Usyk.
“For me, I don’t know if I’m coming into my peak,’’ he said. “I’m just pushing day by day,” he said.
For Ngannou, it looks to be a major setback as he was nowhere near the level of AJ. The Brit had control of the fight from the word go.
In October, last year Francis Ngannou almost won over another heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury. However, following a split decision, Fury another English fighter was declared the winner.
The 34-year-old Joshua recalled being awed by Ngannou’s fight with Fury who has beaten the former twice.
“When I saw the fight with him and Fury, I was like, ‘Damn, this guy can fight.’ So I said, ‘I need a piece of that.”
Although the 37-year-old Cameroonian spent most of the time on the deck, Joshua had nothing but praise for him. He believes that the ex-UFC heavyweight champion can make a great comeback.
“He’s a great champion,’’ Joshua said of Ngannou (0-2) after scoring the 25th knockout of his career. “And this doesn’t take away anything from his capabilities. …He can come back.’’
