Musicians have for a long time been crying about how they don’t earn from their music due to piracy. They said that they needed the copyright law signed into practice and indeed it was.
However, they now feel that it’s lacking and a number of issues need to be addressed. These include the consequences the violators of this law ought to face.
Cindy feels that the President is the right person to meet over this because other concerned agencies won’t feel their plight. Further, she revealed that as the Association, they have a duty to create awareness amongst fellow artists over this law.
The Boom Party singer said that most upcoming artists are against the law. This is due to the fact that it will hamper their rise to fame and therefore it’s an issue they have to address.
“I feel we have to meet the President over the copyright law because we need it strengthened. The punishment for the violators are not so strong. We want to meet the President and talk to him about having it revamped and strengthened. We are also trying to create awareness amongst fellow artists especially the upcoming ones because they are against it. When this law comes into full force, media shall be sieving which music to play since they will be paying for it and this means it’s bound to leave some musicians out which may deter their growth. And it’s therefore an issue we want to address too,” she said.
Cindy also said that one of the proposals is having media play these upcoming artists for some time free of charge. And when they get famous, the media starts paying them for their works.
For the more cemented musicians, the law is highly welcome because it will be providing them with financial security.
