Education Ministry Says Illegal Opening Of Schools Strongly Prohibited

Illegal opening of schools has been strongly prohibited after some headteachers started registering students. After the release of Primary Leaving Examination results, some schools started registering senior one students. This is in the anticipation that after the 42 days, schools are going to start operating. However, the Ministry of Education has not at any time come out o give this directive to any school.

In Hoima district, authorities found some schools operating. Much as they were not teaching but they were registering new senior one students. The president gave a directive and closed all schools for 42 days.

The only provision he gave was to do online teaching plus using radios and televisions. Even at the release of PLE results, the Minister of Education didn’t mention that schools should go ahead to register new students.

Usually, the selection of students is done by the renowned schools before others start registering. Due to Covid though, this activity has not yet taken place. This is due to the fact that we are now in lockdown.

By the end of this week, however, the 42 days will be coming to an end, so schools will know their fate. The president will address the nation on these matters and more this week.

Currently, the nation is waiting for what is next after the 42 days of lockdown. Otherwise, all the directives the president gave still stand.

Anything done contrary to what was said is counted as illegal and in jeopardy to the health system.
