It’s common knowledge that most news outlets always use headlines that are at times way different from the details contained in the story’s body.
This is usually referred to as click baits and most people usually fall for it. And there is no doubt that it’s so annoying to buy a newspaper or click on a story only to find that you have been duped.
Gashumba says that he bought a New Vision copy after an enticing headline. This stated that singer Sheebah Karungi had named the rape suspect in her sexual harassment allegations.
However, to his disappointment, the story didn’t clarify who exactly raped or allegedly tried to rape the singer.
Frank Gashumba, therefore, questioned the newspaper why they had to sell a fake headline to the public. He further tagged Andrew Mwenda and New Vision in his tweet.
“After seeing Newsvision’s headline “Sheebah names rape suspect”, I bought it and read the story but it doesn’t state who raped Sheebah. why sell to us a fake headline? @newvisionwire @AndrewMwenda,” Gashumba tweeted.
And of course, social media and its opinions and banter started pouring in on the tweet. Some questioned him why he had to tag Mwenda who the public hugely victimized as a suspect.
Some even stated that Gashumba himself is a suspect in this matter.
However, Police’s statement yesterday cleared Andrew Mwenda of any wrongdoing as per Sheebah’s narration of the events.
But of course, social media is not about letting the ‘old man of the clan’ off the hook. These have continued to say that the reason he’s so concerned means that he has something fishy going on.
Sheebah however, lodged the case officially and filed it under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID). Police have commenced investigations into the matter and hopefully, they will apprehend the culprit.
