It even went on under lockdown longer than other sectors because of the many people they gather.
During that hard time, almost every Ugandan was lacking and looking for money. Artistes turned their frustrations to Gen. Salim Saleh. Rumor started making rounds on social media that Gen Salim Saleh gave artistes some money through their Association UMA.
This alleged money tore artistes apart with some leaving UMA. They said that the money has been stolen by different artistes known by the government.
According to Phina Mugerwa, there was no money given to Uganda Musicians Association (UMA). In an interview with local television, she revealed that artistes hated one another thinking some were given money which is not true.
Phina Mugerwa called on artistes to come and support the association. She told them they should leave the jealous part with one another behind and build up for the coming generation.
“General Salim Saleh has never given any money to the Uganda Musicians Association. This is why people don’t want to be there for the Association because money split them” Phinah Mugerwa.
It should be noted that Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has leadership issues. Early this year elections were organized but due to lack of funds, they were abruptly stopped.
