Government Remains Apprehensive On Boda Bodas

President Museveni on behalf of the government has once again addressed the nation the 16th time and guided Ugandans on the way forward in fight against the deadly virus.

“When this global catastrophe descended from China to E.A, after quickly conferring the in-depth with our scientists, we realised that for now this enemy could only be handled in two ways; practice social distancing “Tonsemberera” and use masks. While we cannot kill the virus itself with medicine, the body will kill it, if we support it (the body), by treating other sicknesses and supporting it with vitamins and other treatments,” Mr Museveni says.

“373 out of 774 confirmed cases are truck drivers. Therefore the graph of Uganda shows that it has gone up a bit compared it what it was before, but it is flattening,”

“These lockdown measures cannot remain in place forever because they affect sections of the economy. Concerning the death toll, the line is flat because the death toll is zero. Therefore I need to congratulate you Ugandans,”

“The issue now for Ugandans is life or death. We must eliminate the potential for death caused by this virus. This is the guiding principle. It is not wealth, business, jobs or convenience

“The number of truck drivers that are testing positive is reducing. Unfortunately, the numbers rising are from the community, who have been in touch with the truck drivers or people who come through the porous borders,” said Museveni.

“Even me, I began to ask what the curfew was for, if cars were already moving, as long as they are three in the car; the scientists say the aim of the curfew is to reduce the high risk of nocturnal activities,” President Museveni says.

“The requirement is for three people to be in a private car. This can be adjusted to four, but everyone must wear a mask. If boda bodas are allowed to carry people, they can spread the virus even further because of the numbers of people they carry and the areas they can reach, they will continue transporting cargo, as they’ve been doing,” he added.
