Ofwono Opondo who works as the Government spokesperson has come out to refute claims made by former Secretary General of NRM, Amama Mbabazi which stated that he was fired by the president, because he advised his former employer to step down from the high office so the young generation can steer the country’s wheel ahead.

These comments were made by the former presidential candidate while addressing people at Kihihi high school in Kanungu district where they were carrying out a fundraising drive for the school.
“I’m grateful for his leadership but it’s time for him to retire. Now Uganda has turned to a state that whenever we have political differences then we become enemies, that’s not good.” Mbabazi said.
Such statement found the government alert directly responding to Amama Mbabazi through Ofwono Opondo who refuted the statement calling it an absolute lie.
Ofwono Opondo disagrees with Mbabazi’s claims.
“I don’t think Amama thought straight before saying that he was sacked because of his advice to the president that he should retire. If that’s the case then he’s not young as well so why did he contest in 2016 presidential elections?” Ofwono Opondo questioned.
However, Mbabazi executed various roles in the NRM government including attorney general, security minister and Defence minister.
