Heroes Day Became A Partisan NRM Day – Hon Ssemujju Nganda

The country yesterday gathered to celebrate Heroes day that happens every 9th of June yearly. The celebrations took place at Kololo Independence grounds where the PM Robinah Nabbanja was the chief guest.

However, Kiira Municipality MP Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has branded the public holiday as partisan. He added that the NRM has tried all means to legitimize it by adding people.

Further, Nganda said that days such as Liberation day, Tarehesita and even Heroes day will cease with President Museveni. This is because he doesn’t see any other president continuing with them.

“Heroes day is partisan. There has been an attempt to legitimize it by adding people. All these days (Liberation Day, Tarehesita, Heroes Day) will cease with President Museveni. I don’t see any government continuing with them,” Hon Ssemujju Nganda said.

According to Ssemujju, Museveni kept a diary of whatever happened during the 1986 Bush war. However, when he started writing his autobiography, he omitted some things.

These included such as giving Gen Sejusa credit because he annoyed Museveni prior to the publishing of the book.

“Mr. Museveni kept a diary when he was fighting during the Bush War, but when he started writing, he didn’t write things the way they were.

The name of Ssejusa disappeared. I am told he appeared in the draft, but before the book was published, he annoyed Mr. Museveni, and his name was removed,” added Ssemujju Nganda while appearing on the NBS Frontline.

Ssemujju’s sentiments about heroes day were supported by DP president Nobert Mao. Mao said that the heroes who have done everything for their nation shouldn’t be confined to a certain political party.

According to Mao, heroes lift the spirits of those who look up to them. However, when they declare people with shady reputations heroes, it dampens the spirits of the public.

The medals also handed to the heroes are simply mere handouts. They don’t give them to people who truly deserve them.

The president yesterday gave out 81 medals to those he declared heroes for their distinguished service to the nation. Among these included Police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
