Manchester United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana was left speechless after the immense love he was shown while in the country. He apparently can’t wait to be back in the Pearl of Africa.
It should be noted that the 26-year-old’s nation battled Zimbabwe to a goalless draw at the Mandela National Stadium earlier this week.
One could have thought that Cameroon was playing in their own country and stadium. This was due to the fact that the stadium was full with Ugandans chanting Onana’s name and holding placards in support of his nation.
Apparently, these Ugandan Man U fans swarmed the former Ajax player after the game. He had to be whisked away by security to the airport. The fans were too many and he couldn’t go back with the team bus.
Taking to his social media pages, the goalkeeper said that he would have loved to spend more time with these fans but it was not possible. However, he added that he can’t wait to see them next month when the qualifiers resume.
“Thank you for the warm welcome. I would have liked to spend more time with all of you. See you next month in #Uganda.”
Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world. They have a large significant portion of fans in Uganda and Africa. And Onana being the only African/black goalkeeper in the Premier League, the love was not a surprise.
Former Manchester Untied defender, Rio Ferdinand who has also previously been to Uganda also shared the video of fans swarming Onana. And added how he loved this so much.
