Katikiro Mayiga Reveals Why The Middle Income Status Is Impossible For Uganda

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed that the middle income status in Uganda is just impossible to achieve in a short run. This is because of the high levels of corruption in the central government.

Therefore, as the Kingdom of Buganda, it’s for this reason that they are yearning for the federal system. Each region can therefore be left to work on its internal issues.

Mayiga said in such instances areas like Karamoja would have decided for themselves whether they need iron sheets or water since they are pastoralists.

“We can never get to the middle income status because of the massive levels of corruption in the Central government. That’s why we as Buganda kingdom advocate for the federal system. Each region can therefore work on its own issues. Areas like Karamoja would decide if they need water or iron sheets since they are cattle keepers,” the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga said.

The system of federalism is one the Buganda Kingdom has always advocated for. This became a topic of debate in the early and mid 2000’s but the central government quashed it. Buganda has however never given up on it.

Meanwhile, transforming Uganda into middle income economy is a fantasy of President Museveni. He a while ago said that Uganda had arrived into this status but the World Bank quashed his claims.

And just as per Katikiro’s submission, corruption is one of those reasons Uganda has been pegged back from developing.

Those in leadership positions are not ashamed of taking from the poor the little they have. And the Karamoja ironsheets scandal just proved that.
