During the nation address on Saturday, Kenyan president His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta mentioned that he was establishing more measures after it appeared that more cases were imported from Somalia and Tanzania.
‘If we fail to take additional preventive measures and become even more serious in executing existing guidelines, more people will end up getting sick and even die,’said Kenyatta.
However, the official order, with effect from Saturday midnight, doesn’t affect cargo trucks.
The tough decision, which has never happened before in the history of East African Community’s twenty year existence, came as Kenya decided to block 78 cargo truck drivers from Somalia and Tanzania from coming into the country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta made an announcement on Saturday that the number of coronavirus cases in Kenya had hit 830 after 49 more samples tested positive.
Among the new 49 positive cases, 43 were imported cases from the neighboring countries ,’he added.
Kenya’s decision to stop infected Tanzanian cargo truck drivers came as regional member states went through a difficult time to have a common policy on fighting the spread of the deadly virus, whilst authorizing free movement of goods.
